Our Projects

Highland Wind Farm Assessment

Objective: Undertook a comprehensive Heritage Impact Assessment for a proposed wind farm in the Scottish Highlands, aiming to balance renewable energy objectives with cultural and historical preservation.

Approach: Conducted field surveys, interviews with local stakeholders, and archival research to identify historically significant sites, including Gaelic and folkloric traditions. Employed GIS mapping to assess visual impact and integrated advanced research methodologies aligning with Highland Council strategies for energy efficiency.

Outcome: Recommended turbine placement adjustments to protect the visual integrity of a nearby ancient monument, illustrating how renewable energy projects can proceed responsibly while safeguarding Scotland's cultural landscapes.

Coastal Solar Installation

Objective: Evaluated the cultural and ecological impacts of a large-scale solar farm near a coastal heritage site, ensuring environmental responsibility and compliance with planning regulations.

Approach: Collaborated with environmental scientists, local authorities, and community groups to gather input on cultural sensitivities and coastal ecosystem concerns. Conducted in-depth impact studies of maritime heritage, mapping out archaeological and historical hotspots to refine the solar farm's layout.

Outcome: Created a Cultural Heritage Management Plan detailing protective measures for sensitive areas, from buffer zones to public education initiatives. This enabled the project to move forward while preserving historic landmarks and coastal integrity.

Urban Development in a Historic District

Objective: Provided heritage consulting services for a commercial development within a designated conservation area, balancing modern architecture with historic preservation.

Approach: Performed a heritage significance analysis, proposing design modifications and material choices that complemented existing historical structures. Developed a public consultation framework aligned with 20-Minute Neighbourhood principles to ensure accessibility and community amenities were preserved.

Outcome: Secured planning permission by satisfying both client objectives and heritage preservation requirements. The final design harmonised with the district's character, gaining positive feedback from local authorities and heritage organisations.

Energy Efficiency Strategy & Tenders Framework

Objective: Designed and implemented an energy efficiency strategy and tenders framework for a company collaborating with Highland Council objectives, aiming to optimise sustainability while respecting the region's cultural heritage.

Approach: Conducted a comprehensive analysis of energy consumption and efficiency opportunities, aligning results with Highland Council priorities for sustainable growth. Developed clear guidelines for green building and retrofit measures, minimising environmental impact while safeguarding heritage features. Created an evaluation matrix for future tenders to address cultural preservation, carbon reduction, and community benefits.

Outcome: Delivered a robust strategy integrating heritage conservation, energy savings, and stakeholder engagement. The framework enables the company to prioritise sustainability and cultural safeguarding in all future projects.
